Sound Insulation
Efficient space planning is not just about what you see, but about what you don’t hear. That’s why at Multiwal, we have rethought every component. With technical perfection and strict quality control, we create spaces that truly function.

Space division with optimal sound insulation
Mobile panel walls are primarily used for space division in hotels, multifunctional centers, conference centers, schools, and meeting rooms.
To make optimal use of these spaces, good sound insulation tailored to the user’s needs is essential
Extensively tested
Multiwal possesses the latest test reports for sound insulation according to DIN EN 10140-2 / 20140-3 laboratory values from international testing laboratories.
Our mobile panel walls have been tested at TNO Technical Physical Service at TU Delft and at ITA and Fraunhofer-Institut in Germany. Sound insulation up to 59 dB is possible. A score that is comparable to most modern fixed walls.

From theory to practice:
sound insulation in reality
It is important for the designer or user to consider that there can be a significant difference between laboratory values and the sound insulation of walls installed in practice. During design, it is crucial to account for flanking sound transmission from the building structure.
To achieve a desired practical value, the design must take into account:
- All specified values according to laboratory DIN EN 20140-3 / 10140-2
- Sound loss between laboratory and practical value
- Bridging sound loss in ceilings, floors, walls, ventilation ducts, cable trays, and structural connections
- Doors, glass cut-outs, and intersections in rail constructions
As a rule of thumb, you should account for a sound loss of approximately 10 dB between laboratory and practical values.

Examples of approximate sound transmission calculation
Loud talking with a sound level of approx. 65 dB / A
- Selected panel wall 50 dB
- Deduction for flanking sounds approx. 10 dB
- Remaining in installed state approx. 40 dB
- Residual transmission approx. 25 dB, which is equivalent to audibly whispering
Loud talking with a sound level of approx. 85 dB / A
- Selected panel wall 54 dB
- Deduction for flanking sounds approx. 10 dB
- Remaining in installed state approx. 44 dB
- Residual transmission approx. 41 dB, which is equivalent to audibly whispering
| 20 dB | Whispering |
| 30 dB | Light traffic |
| 40 dB | Normal conversation |
| 50 dB | Loud talking |
| 60 dB | Very loud talking |
| 70 dB | Machine noise (vacuum cleaner) |
| 120 dB | Jackhammer / Demolition hammer |
